Poland 2018
We had never set our destination at such short notice ... exactly one day before departure we decided not to go to Romania as originally planned. The journey was too long for the trip, which had been reduced to two weeks, and there were riots in Bucharest. We decided to go to Poland. We ordered another travel guide, waited the next day until it was delivered, sat in the Womo and off we went :-)
We circumnavigated the entire Polish border, through the original landscape of the Carpathian Mountains and through the Danube Delta to the Baltic Sea. We stayed at beautiful lakes with lovely sunsets and sunrises. We saw a lot of storks and cranes, foxes, deer, even a cow elk with a calf and for the first time a raccoon dog, which unfortunately was run over ... It was a journey into the past - with many very old buildings, unfortunately often half crumbled , visited the Wolfsschanze and were confronted with German history.
A special highlight for me was the traditional state stud Janow Podlawski with beautiful Arabian horses !!
Poland is an interesting travel destination, but you should definitely have bicycles with you (unfortunately we didn't have it). Many national parks can only be explored on foot or by bike. Maybe then we would have met bison too. We noticed that there was a lot of rubbish lying around, especially at the lakes and also at rest areas. Wherever people are. In addition, we didn't really come into contact with the population, which we thought was a shame. We had the feeling that international tourism was not wanted in Poland. There were many tourists at the sights, but practically exclusively Polish compatriots. It was also striking how many projects were sponsored by EU funding ...
Another note for motorhome drivers whose vehicles are over 3.5 t: it was an odyssey until we finally had the viaBOX for the toll. It was stated on the Internet that the box is available at petrol stations. However, we couldn't find a gas station that had a box. We had to look for truck stops that were off the border. There were also no signs. We spent half a day each time until we had the box and could return it. And all of this for a debited toll amount of € 1.50 !! This regulation is probably intended for trucks that use the box permanently, but completely wrong for Womos. We would have preferred to buy a vignette and pay more ....
This trip was exciting, beautiful, interesting and instructive ... and we came home with many new impressions.
